Kiepenheuer & Witsch und die Galerie KOW möchten das Erscheinen von THE GREAT NOWITZKI feiern – mit Lesung, Gespräch und Fotografien von Tobias Zielony.

Sieben lange Jahre haben der Schriftsteller Thomas Pletzinger und der Fotograf und Videokünstler Tobias Zielony die Basketball-Legende Dirk Nowitzki begleitet. In »The Great Nowitzki« zeigen sie uns eine ungesehene Welt jenseits des Scheinwerferlichts – ihnen gelingt eine brillante Betrachtung des außergewöhnlichen Menschen Nowitzki und zugleich eine meisterhafte literarische Reportage aus der Welt des Profisports. »The Great Nowitzki« bietet auch visuell einzigartige und in dieser Form unbekannte Einblicke in die Welt des Superstars. Pletzinger und Zielony zeigen Nowitzkis Kosmos jenseits der vertrauten sportjournalistischen Ikonografie: extrem lebendig, eindrucksvoll und nach am Geschehen.

Thomas Pletzinger wird aus seiner großen gerade erschienenen Reportage aus dem Kosmos des Ausnahmesportlers Dirk Nowitzki lesen, den er über sieben Jahre lang begleitet hat. Im anschließenden Gespräch wird es um die Frage gehen, wie man sich schreibend und fotografierend einem Superstar nähern kann, ohne nur bekannte Positionen zu reproduzieren. Es wird um die Zusammenarbeit von Pletzinger und Tobias Zielony gehen, dessen Fotografien eine ganz eigene Annäherung an Dirk Nowitzki und seine Welt darstellen. Moderation durch Florian Werner.

Anschließend wird angestoßen und das Buch gemeinsam gefeiert.
